Head Football Coach
After working as an assistant for eight head coaches over 15 years at the college and high school levels, Chandler Tygard is entering his second season as the head football coach for the North Jackson Chiefs. He comes to North Jackson after serving as the offensive coordinator and assistant head coach for the 2018 Madison Academy Mustangs in Huntsville, Alabama. The Mustangs up-tempo no-huddle offense led Class 5A in total offense under his direction, including both an all-state quarterback and another all-region quarterback in his system. Prior to Madison Academy, Coach Tygard was the offensive coordinator for Middle-Tennessee powerhouse, Ravenwood High School, in Brentwood, Tennessee and defensive coordinator for Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Prior to entering the high school coaching ranks, Coach Tygard served 7 seasons at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, first as a student assistant, then quality control coach for the Volunteers. He worked under Philip Fulmer, Lane Kiffin, and Derek Dooley during his time in Knoxville and worked with defensive coordinators, John Chavis, Monte Kiffin, and Justin Wilcox on a daily basis. He was named the interim special teams coordinator for the 2009 Peach Bowl against Virginia Tech. Coach Tygard has coached at Division II Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri and the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
Coach Tygard is from Nashville, Tennessee where he was a member of the 2000, 2002, and 2003 Montgomery Bell Academy state championship teams. The 2003 team finished #14 in the USA Top 25 high school rankings. He is married to the former Lauren Castle of Bridgeport, Alabama and South Pittsburg, Tennessee and the couple has a 4-year old son (Camp) and 6 month old son (Barrett).
Strength & Conditioning
Coach Bess is entering his first season as the defensive coordinator and strength and conditioning coach for the Chiefs. He comes to Stevenson from 7A Sparkman High School in Huntsville, Alabama. Prior to Sparkman, Coach Bess was the defensive backs coach for Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. Prior to Delta State, Coach Bess served as the defensive backs coach for Western New Mexico State University and defensive backs coach for Sierra College in Rocklin, California.
Coach Bess was a four-year starter for Athens High School in Athens, Alabama and was ranked as the #58 player in the Elite 100 for the class of 2010. He played cornerback for Butte College and then Rhode Island University. Coach Bess received his bachelor's degree in communication studies from Rhode Island University and a master's degree in Human & Sports Performance from Delta State University. He also currently serves his country in the United States Army Reserves.
Assistant Head Coach
Offensive Line Coach
Coach Hollis is entering his 7th year on the North Jackson coaching staff as the offensive line coach. He has 18 years of coaching experience with 8 years on the college level. The son of former Arkansas State Head Coach and Ohio State offensive coordinator, Joe Hollis Sr, Coach Hollis began his coaching career at Auburn University under Tommy Tuberville and offensive coordinator, Bobby Petrino. As a member of the Auburn staff, Coach Hollis served as an offensive graduate assistant for the 2004 undefeated 13-0 team.
After Auburn, Coach Hollis was the offensive tackles coach for Chis Hatcher at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia in 2008. He was the 2009 offensive coordinator for 7A Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham, Alabama and the offensive coordinator for Haralson County High School in Georgia from 2010-2012. He also served as the run game coordinator for Hueytown High School in 2013.
Coach Hollis was the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator for the 2018 North Jackson Chiefs team that finished with an 11-1 record, breaking numerous school records: total points scored (677), scoring average (56.4), the average margin of victory, and total points scored in a game (77). Running back, Lee Witherspoon, averaged 19.2 yards per carry and set the AHSAA single-season touchdown record with 59. He signed with Mississippi State in February of 2019.
Coach Hollis is engaged to the former Bailey Allison of Bridgeport. They have three children: JR (10), Baya (8), and Cayson (4).
Gerald Riggs Jr.
Running Backs Coach
Former Red Bank High School, University of Tennessee, and NFL running back, Gerald Riggs Jr. joins the North Jackson staff in 2020 to coach running backs for the Chiefs. Coach Riggs and Coach Tygard worked together for two seasons at Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee from 2015-2016. During their time at Notre Dame, 56% of the senior football players signed football scholarships including Sam Stovall (Northwestern), 4 star, Cameron Wynn (FAU), 3 star Patrick Johnson (Tulane), Kolby McGowen (Cornell), Calvin Sims (Austin Peay), Alex Darras (Furman), Tyler Enos (Tennessee Tech), and numerous Junior College, Division II, Division III, and NAIA players.
As a player, Coach Riggs led the Red Bank Lions to their first state championship in 2000. He was a 2003 US Army All-American and signed with the University of Tennessee. Coach Riggs played three seasons in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, and the Detroit Lions. In 2011, Coach Riggs joined up with former Chiefs assistant coach, Chris Jones, at the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. The pair won the 2011 Grey Cup, the CFL equivalent to the Super Bowl. He currently lives in Chattanooga and operates Beast University Training specializing in athletic training for middle school and high school athletes. 23 Beast University football players have signed college football scholarships since 2014. He has two children: Layla (3) and Gerald III (2).

Wide Receivers Coach
Coach Chis Reynolds is entering his second season as the wide receivers coach for the North Jackson Chiefs. A former college football and baseball player for Alabama State from 2000-2004, Coach Reynolds is now entering his 18th season as a high school football coach. He was promoted to head coach of Barbour County High School in Clayton, Alabama from 2014-2016 after serving as the school's defensive coordinator from 2008-2014 and the wide receivers coach from 2004-2008. Coach Reynolds spent one season as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator at Abbeyville Christian Academy before joining the Chiefs in 2019.
Coach Reynolds has coached 10 all-state players in his coaching career and signed the first 5 football players to college scholarships in Barbour County football history.
Coach Reynolds is a 2004 graduate of Alabama State University with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and received a master's of science in Sports Fitness Management from Troy University in 2010. He currently resides in Stevenson, Alabama and teaches Pre-K through 4th-grade physical education at Bridgeport, Elementary School. Originally from Lakeland, Florida, Coach Reynolds is single and has a daughter, Sierra (19), currently enrolled at Depaul University in Chicago.
